Names of Directors of Dainik Jagran and Dainik Bhaskar in Panama Papers Leaks

The international consortium of investigative journalists (ICIJ) has recently published a massive searchable data base of ‘Panama Papers Investigation’ information on detailed offshore entities in various tax haven countries. This trove of voluminous information comprised in thousands of documents is pertaining to around 2000 individuals linked to India.

Very shocking! The names of directors of two big media groups – Dainik Bhaskar and Dainik Jagran are in there, in this trove of database. One is Nitika Agrawal and others two are Sanjiv Mohan Gupta and Sapna Gupta.

Nitika Agrawal

Nitika Agrawal is one of the directors of DB Corp Limited (Bhaskar Group). According to filing at SEBI, she has a stake of 1.90 percent in DB Corp Ltd whereas her husband Pawan Agrawal, youngest son of Ramesh Agrawal, the chairman of Dainik Bhaskar has a stake of 10.12%. Agrawal family is the owner of DB Copr Ltd, that too have other directors as Ramesh Agrawal (17.46%) and his other son Sudhir Agrawal and Girish Agrawal. ICIJ database has shown her as a director/ stake holder of the BRICK JOINT PTE LTD and has registered address E1/79 Arera Colony, Bhopal, 462016 Madhya Pradesh, India which is the confirmed address of Agrawal family.

    

Sanjiv Mohan Gupta and Sapna Gupta

The couple Sanjiv and Sapna Gupta are the director of Jagran Ltd and brief themselves as the brand owner of Jagran among various mentions including social media websites. While searching, the database shows Sapna Gupta and Sanjiv Gupta as the director of VENUS  BUSINESS HOLDING PTE LTD. Both have registered address at B/22, 74 Bungalows South TT Ngar, Bhopal 462011 Madhya Pradesh, India, which is government bunglow where BJP’s Madan Mohan Gupta is residing at present.  

    

A random search of the database displays 22 offshore entities belonging to 1,046 officers/ persons, 42 intermediaries and as many as 828 addresses within the country across the cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai to small locations in Haryana's Sirsa, Bihar's Muzaffarpur and Madhya Pradesh's Mandasaur and state capital Bhopal.
